Stretch, Breathe and Relax
Slow and meditative, Yin Yoga is a calm and reflective style that fosters flexibility, eases tension, and encourages energy movement by holding gentle postures for extended periods. Typically, poses are sustained for 4 to 8 minutes, which deeply stretches the connective tissues. Well-suited for reducing stress, supporting mindfulness, and boosting joint mobility, it’s an ideal practice for those seeking both physical and mental balance.

What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga was developed to complement Yang styles of yoga by focusing on passive stretches that promote relaxation and introspection. The practice involves seated or supine poses that engage the lower body, particularly the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. The goal is to gently stretch and strengthen the connective tissues while encouraging a meditative state of mind. By holding poses for longer durations, practitioners can access deeper layers of tension and promote emotional release.

Yin Yoga and Meridian Lines
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), meridians are channels through which qi (life force energy) flows.
By applying gentle tension or compression in specific poses, Yin Yoga targets these meridian lines, helping to release blockages and restore the smooth flow of energy throughout the body. Each major meridian is associated with particular organs and emotional states. For example, the Liver meridian is linked to anger and frustration, while the Spleen meridian is tied to willpower and self-esteem.
Most Yin Yoga postures focus on the lower body, where the primary meridians—such as the Liver, Gallbladder, Kidney, Urinary Bladder, Spleen, and Stomach—are located. As these meridians are stimulated, the practice can help balance the corresponding organs and emotions, promoting overall harmony and well-being.
Chinese Medicine
Chinese Medicine is an ancient medical practice from China that dates back more than 2,500 years. The foundation of Chinese Medicine is based on the flow of Qi (energy) through energy channels (meridian pathways) around the body even 24 hours. There are 12 main pathways, 8 extraordinary and many more. Chinese Medicine may be defined trough Taoism and its nature of yin, yang and the 5 phases, through which natural herbal remedies, Tuina (massage), Moxibustion, Qi gong, Acupuncture and Acupressure are used for treatment of disease.
Why Practice Yin Yoga?
Engaging in Yin Yoga offers numerous benefits:
Yin Yang Theory
Yin provides form. Yang provides growth.
Yin yang is the most well-known concept within Taoism. Yin and Yang are two opposing principles that remain inseparable. Yin represents the shady side of a hill and Yang represents the sunny side of a hill. Yin never resides fully without yang and vice versa – it represents the concept of balance.
